Adele has announced plans to take an extended break from music following her current series of concerts. Speaking to German broadcaster ZDF ahead of a 10 date residency in Munich, the singer expressed her exhaustion, stating, "My tank is quite empty at the minute." She confirmed she has no plans for new music and is looking forward to pursuing other creative endeavors for a while.
Adele's most recent album was released in 2021, and she has since spent two years performing a weekend residency in Las Vegas, culminating in her 90th show at the 4,000 seat Caesar's Palace. The residency will conclude in November, and Adele described the experience as emotionally taxing. Despite the manageable crowd size, she said, "It's really been an emotional exchange," and anticipates feeling similarly after her Munich shows, viewing it as a positive energy exchange.
However, not all of her Vegas concerts have gone smoothly. In June, she confronted an audience member who allegedly shouted "Pride sucks" during a performance, responding with, "Don’t be so ridiculous. If you have nothing nice to say, shut up, all right?" Reflecting on the incident, Adele admitted, "Everything makes me angry. Absolutely everything. I'm 36 years old. I'm old and grumpy now."
Adele's Munich residency will be significantly larger in scale, with 74,000 fans expected each night in a specially built stadium. The venue will feature an "Adele experience" with an English pub, a cover band stage, and stalls offering specially designed cocktails. Organizers also aim to set a Guinness World Record for the largest outdoor screen, measuring 220 meters in length.
Adele shared her excitement about the setup on Instagram, describing it as "bloody exciting," and highlighted that the massive video installation will enhance the experience for fans. The first show is scheduled for 2 August, though 5% of tickets remain unsold, with the highest and lowest price ranges having the most availability. Tickets range from €79 to €430 .
Despite her success, Adele cited the struggle with fame as a reason for her planned hiatus. She misses the anonymity she once had, saying, "I miss everything about before I was famous, I think probably being anonymous the most." While she appreciates the opportunity to make music and the positive reception, she finds the fame aspect challenging. "The fact that people are even interested in my songs and my voice is pretty wild. I don't think it ever gets normal. So it's worth it, the balance," she concluded.
