European Airlines Continue Flight Suspensions to Israel Amid Security Concerns

Due to ongoing security concerns, numerous prominent European airlines have decided to extend the suspension of their flights to Israel and other regions in the Middle East.

Airlines had previously halted flights to destinations such as Tel Aviv, Lebanon, and Jordan, citing escalating tensions and the possibility of a broader regional conflict. The Lufthansa Group, which encompasses carriers like Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss, and Eurowings, has now extended the suspension of its flights to Amman, Beirut, Erbil, Tehran, and Tel Aviv through Wednesday, August 21.

"Considering the latest security assessments, Lufthansa Group is revising its flight services to the Middle East," the company declared in a statement. Passengers affected by these suspensions have been offered the flexibility to either rebook or cancel their flights without any penalties.

Ryanair, a popular budget airline, has also canceled all operations to and from Tel Aviv until August 28, attributing the cancellations to "operational restrictions beyond our control." Meanwhile, Air France and its subsidiary, Transavia, have extended their suspension of flights to Beirut until Wednesday, August 14.

United Airlines, a major U.S. carrier, has decided to suspend its services to Israel for an indefinite period due to the prevailing security issues.

Despite these widespread suspensions, some airlines continue to maintain their flights to Tel Aviv. Notably, Israeli airline El Al and British Airways are still operating flights from London Heathrow. Additionally, Wizz Air has recently resumed its service to Israel.

Earlier this year, EasyJet announced the suspension of all flights to and from Israel until the conclusion of the summer 2024 schedule on October 27. KLM has also decided to cancel all services to Tel Aviv until October 26.
