American Detained for Threats Against Taylor Swift Ahead of German Concerts
A 34 year old American man was detained by police in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, for making threats against Taylor Swift on social media, ahead of her concert in the city. The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, was apprehended during entry checks at the Veltins Arena on Wednesday and will remain in custody until her performances in the city conclude.
Authorities received tips from event organizers about the man's online threats against Swift and her partner, prompting the detention as a precautionary measure. Despite the initial investigation not entirely ruling out a potential risk, police assured that there was no danger to Swift or the audience. Wednesday's concert, attended by approximately 60,000 people, proceeded without incident.
In honor of Swift's visit, Gelsenkirchen temporarily renamed itself "Swiftkirchen" and dedicated a spot on its “Walk of Fame” to the singer. Swift's Eras Tour includes performances in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, before continuing to Hamburg and Munich.
