Over the past 25 years, Radio 1's Live Lounge has hosted performances from some of the biggest names in music. To mark the anniversary, the station's presenters have voted on the best performances in the show's history, with Amy Winehouse’s 2007 cover of The Zutons' Valerie taking the top spot. This iconic rendition outshone performances by stars such as Arctic Monkeys, Adele, RAYE, and Dua Lipa.

Arctic Monkeys secured both second and third place with their covers of Love Machine by Girls Aloud and Hold On, We’re Going Home by Drake. Adele’s version of Cheryl’s Promise This landed in fourth place, while Ben Howard’s take on Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen came in fifth.

The Live Lounge format typically features artists performing both an original song and a cover in a live, acoustic setting. The longlist of 50 performances was selected based on the quality of performance, cultural impact, audience reception, and longevity, with Radio 1 presenters ranking their top 25.

Amy Winehouse’s version of Valerie was recorded at Maida Vale studios and gained such popularity that it was officially released on Mark Ronson’s album Version. The cover reached number two on the Official Singles Chart. Amy Winehouse, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 27, has been recognized for her exceptional contribution to Live Lounge history.

Current Live Lounge hosts Rickie, Melvin, and Charlie praised the selection, calling Winehouse's performance a "worthy winner" and highlighting its special significance. Other notable Live Lounge performances by artists like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jay Z, and Miley Cyrus have garnered millions of views on YouTube, with many artists using the platform to honor those who have inspired them.

Radio 1 will broadcast a countdown of the top 25 Live Lounge covers on Monday, August 26.
