Former LSU standout Angel Reese made history by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve seven consecutive double-doubles. Reese scored 16 points and grabbed a career high 18 rebounds, leading the Chicago Sky to an 83-72 victory over the Dallas Wings, ending their four game losing streak. “It’s super exciting for myself,” Reese told ESPN. “I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”
Reese, who averages 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, has a realistic shot at challenging Candace Parker's all time record of 12 consecutive double-doubles. Only two time MVP A’ja Wilson is averaging more rebounds per game than Reese.
The Sky dominated the game, leading by as much as 22 points in the third quarter. The Wings managed to reduce the deficit to nine points in the fourth quarter but never came close to overtaking the Sky.
Marina Mabrey and Chennedy Carter each scored a team high 19 points for the Sky, while rookie Kamilla Cardoso narrowly missed a double double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with a game high 31 points.
The Sky improved their season record to 5-9 and are set to face Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Wings, with the second worst record in the league at 3-11, will visit the Washington Mystics on Saturday.
