Suspect Detained as Investigation Continues into Tragic Incident

Swedish authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the deaths of two British men found in a burnt out car in Malmö in July. Prosecutors are holding the individual on suspicion of aiding and abetting murder.

Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, and Juan Cifuentes, 33, both from north London, were discovered in the charred remains of a Toyota Rav 4 on 14 July. According to Swedish police, both men had been shot before their vehicle was set on fire. The two had been reported missing after failing to return home from a business trip.

The Swedish Prosecution Authority stated that investigations into the deaths of Mr. Abdulrazak and Mr. Cifuentes are ongoing in both Sweden and the UK. Prosecutors believe the pair rented the vehicle at an airport in Denmark just hours before their bodies were found in the Fosie industrial area of Malmö.

Mr. Abdulrazak and Mr. Cifuentes were business partners and owned a travel agency in north London. Magnus Pettersson, who is leading the preliminary investigation in Sweden, said prosecutors have until 1 September to decide whether the suspect can remain in custody.

The families of the two men expressed their profound grief, describing their loss as a significant blow to their community. Mr. Abdulrazak's family remembered him as "a beautiful, selfless, humble soul" and "a huge pillar in our family and community." Meanwhile, Mr. Cifuentes was commemorated by his family as "a pillar of strength and compassion," with his legacy continuing through his children, who reflect the love and values he imparted.
