Arsenal is currently in discussions with Real Sociedad to secure the signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino. The 28 year old was a key player for Spain during their Euro 2024 triumph, playing in all seven matches of the tournament and scoring a crucial late goal in the quarter final victory over Germany.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, Merino could be available at a reduced fee, as he would be eligible to negotiate a free transfer with other clubs starting in January. This situation could facilitate Arsenal's efforts to finalize the deal.
Earlier this week, Merino's teammate, Martin Zubimendi, turned down a move to Liverpool after Real Sociedad successfully convinced him to remain with the club. Arsenal has been active in the current transfer window, making significant moves both in and out of the squad. The club sold Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham in a deal potentially worth up to £34 million and secured the signing of Riccardo Calafiori for around £42 million.
Meanwhile, the future of striker Eddie Nketiah remains uncertain. He has attracted interest from Marseille, as well as Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, although no formal offers have been made.
