VTU Vice Chancellor Vidyashankar S. Inaugurates Excel Corp's 'Software Development and Product Innovation Centre' in Belagavi
VTU Vice Chancellor Vidyashankar S. inaugurated the 'Software Development and Product Innovation Centre' established by the US based company Excel Corp at the Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation within the university campus in Belagavi.
VRIF, a Section 8 company founded by VTU, aims to enhance students' education through practical experiences. Prof. Vidyashankar emphasized that VTU is implementing several initiatives to foster the holistic development of engineering students in the State. These projects include internships and training programs that integrate various industries on campus to equip students with essential professional skills. "This is a landmark moment for VTU, as it marks the first time a US-based software company like Excel Corp has set up a platform here," he remarked.
The new centre will operate under a "earn while you learn" model, providing students with opportunities for work, training, and project based learning. The facility will offer hands-on sessions in design, programming, and software development, contributing to Belagavi's ambition to become an industry and IT hub.
Additionally, VTU is establishing a platform to financially support and recognize students' innovative and creative skills, encouraging them to launch their own startups. In line with this goal, VTU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Skill Development Corporation in New Delhi to impart essential skills to all engineering students.
Jit Goel, Founder and CEO of Excel Corp, highlighted Belagavi's strategic position and its potential to become a significant industry and IT hub in Karnataka, citing its talent pool, infrastructure, and favorable climate. Despite these advantages, many young professionals leave Belagavi for opportunities in larger cities like Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad. Excel Corp aims to address this issue by generating local employment through its new Software Development Centre.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Registrar B.E. Rangaswamy, Registrar Evaluation T.N. Srineevasa, and other dignitaries.
