Vice President Kamala Harris made a notable entrance at her campaign headquarters on Monday evening, walking out to Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” A source close to Harris told CNN that her team received permission from Beyoncé’s representatives to use the song throughout her presidential campaign.

Despite Beyoncé's well known strict guidelines on music clearance, she quickly approved Harris' campaign request to use “Freedom” on Monday, just hours before Harris' appearance. Although Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris since President Joe Biden announced he would not seek a second term, granting permission to use “Freedom” suggests the singer's support for Harris.

On her Instagram, Beyoncé posted a photo with Harris, expressing admiration for Harris’ energy and leadership and thanking President Biden for his service. She encouraged support for Harris’ presidential bid with a message, “Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go.”

Beyoncé has a history of supporting Democratic candidates. She performed the National Anthem at President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration and headlined a pre election concert for Hillary Clinton in 2016, where her backup dancers wore blue pantsuits in Clinton’s honor. In 2020, Beyoncé endorsed the Biden Harris ticket and encouraged her followers to vote. “Freedom,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, is from Beyoncé’s 2016 album “Lemonade” and became an anthem in many demonstrations following George Floyd's death in 2020.
