Users of Hereford's bike share program have collectively ridden over 1,000,000 kilometers (621,371 miles) through 425,000 journeys. Launched in 2019, the Beryl bike scheme has been instrumental in reducing traffic congestion and promoting healthier lifestyles among residents, according to Herefordshire Council.

Richard Vaughan, the council's sustainability and climate change manager, highlighted the scheme's success by noting that achieving this milestone in under five years demonstrates its popularity within the city.

Phil Ellis, the CEO and co founder of Beryl, emphasized the broader impact of the program. Conversations with users revealed that the bike share scheme is fostering more sustainable transportation habits. According to Ellis, 60% of Beryl riders in Hereford reported cycling more frequently since joining the scheme. Additionally, 46% indicated a decrease in their car usage, while 44% have reduced their reliance on taxis.

The council also reported that, based on industry estimates, the scheme has contributed to saving nearly 40 tonnes of carbon emissions. Beryl offers flexible pricing options to its users, including a "pay as you ride" model with a £1 unlocking fee and 5p per minute, as well as longer-term packages for regular users.
