Businesses are being encouraged to demonstrate their support for arts and culture by signing a new charter. The Hull and East Yorkshire Creative Charter, introduced by the arts collaboration partnership HEY Creative, is the first initiative of its kind in the UK.
Under the charter, companies are urged to display local artwork and share information about arts events on their social media channels. Max May, HEY Creative's chief executive, launched the scheme on Monday, emphasizing that arts and culture have the power to "unite people from all corners of our region.
Mr. May highlighted that the charter is designed to foster growth, inspire new ideas, and promote wellbeing. Various organizations, including Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the University of Hull, Hull College, The Deep, and Hull Truck Theatre, have already pledged their support.
HEY Creative reported that arts and culture contribute over £35 million to East Yorkshire's economy, with more than 250 venues classified within the arts and culture sector. Dominic Gibbons, chair of HEY Creative, stated that arts and culture play a significant role in making people happier, healthier.
HEY Creative is one of more than 30 organizations created by Arts Council England and the Department of Digital Culture, Media and Sport to promote cultural activities.
