Experience the grand return of Dior to Scotland with its first Scottish fashion show since 1955, featuring tartan outfits and a star-studded audience.
French fashion house Dior has made a grand return to Scotland, hosting its first catwalk show in the country in almost seventy years. The event, held in the gardens of Drummond Castle near Crieff in Perthshire, drew inspiration from Scottish history and was attended by a star studded audience including Jennifer Lawrence, Rosamund Pike, and Anya Taylor Joy.
Historic Inspirations
Dior last showcased its collections in Scotland in 1955, when founder Christian Dior held two fashion shows one at the Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder and the other at Glasgow's Central Hotel. The recent Cruise 2025 event took place on Monday evening at Drummond Castle, often referred to as the "Versailles of Scotland." This picturesque location was also used as the set for the French palace gardens in the popular TV series Outlander.
Creative Direction and Thematic Elements
Dior's creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, drew inspiration from the rich history of the location and the longstanding Auld Alliance between Scotland and France. The show opened with tartan outfits and concluded with a parade of pipers, paying homage to Scottish culture. Chiuri collaborated with renowned Scottish fabric makers, including Harris Tweed and Johnstons of Elgin, to incorporate authentic Scottish textiles into her designs.
Collaborations and Craftsmanship
In developing her collection, Chiuri worked with Samantha McCoach from Le Kilt to create designer pocketed kilts. This collaboration emphasized the fusion of traditional Scottish craftsmanship with contemporary fashion, highlighting Dior's commitment to quality and heritage.
The event marked a significant moment in Dior's history, blending the elegance of French haute couture with the timeless traditions of Scottish design.
