The Kansas City Chiefs remain the only undefeated team in the NFL after securing a 28-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in a scrappy Super Bowl rematch, improving to 6-0. Both quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy, faced challenges in a defensively dominated contest, but the reigning champions continue to find ways to win, thanks largely to their defense.
While Mahomes has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season, the Chiefs are still prevailing through gritty performances. In this game, Kansas City capitalized on four rushing touchdowns and stellar defensive play, extending their streak to 27 consecutive games of allowing 28 points or fewer. Mahomes contributed with his legs, achieving a career best 33 yard run and scoring a rushing touchdown, but it’s the defense, led by coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, that is powering their success.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings suffered their first loss of the season to division rivals Detroit, with quarterback Jared Goff delivering another impressive performance. Josh Allen also celebrated his 100th start for the Buffalo Bills with a standout showing. Elsewhere, Green Bay edged out the Houston Texans with a late field goal, Saquon Barkley returned to New York to haunt the Giants, and Aaron Rodgers’ reunion with Davante Adams was spoiled by a loss to Pittsburgh.
San Francisco had a particularly tough outing, losing star receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, while Purdy struggled, throwing three interceptions. Despite the debut of rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall, who returned to the field just 50 days after being shot, the 49ers were unable to overcome Kansas City's dominant defense.
