Steph Curry delivered a stellar performance, scoring 37 points to propel the Golden State Warriors to a 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Cup. The 36 year old guard dominated down the stretch, scoring the Warriors final 12 points, including a clutch three pointer to extend the lead to 118-114, continuing his impressive start to the season.

The game marked Klay Thompson’s return to the Chase Center after ending his 13 year tenure with the Warriors to join the Mavericks in the offseason. Thompson, 34, contributed 22 points in his first game back in the Bay Area.

Curry, who won four NBA championships alongside Thompson, admitted it felt unusual to face his long time teammate.

“We went through our pre-game scouting and matchups, and it was almost surreal to hear, ‘Steph, you’ve got Klay,’” Curry remarked.

Thompson, a five time NBA All Star, acknowledged the difficulty of containing Curry during his late game surge.

“It stings to be on the other side of one of his scoring flurries. Steph caught fire at the end,” Thompson said.

In other NBA Cup action, the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 122-108, while the Milwaukee Bucks secured a 99-85 win over the Toronto Raptors.

The NBA Cup features an initial group stage format, leading into single elimination knockout rounds.
