A Scottish fashion designer has achieved a sell out success with his reinterpretation of Billy Connolly's iconic banana boots. Charles Jeffrey, whose £1,750 boots are inspired by the original pair he admired as a child at Glasgow's People's Palace museum, celebrates the influence of Connolly's humor in his work.

The 33 year old Bellshill native said that humor is "incredibly intrinsic" to his designs. The original banana boots, famously worn by comedy legend Connolly during his 1970s live shows, were designed by Glasgow pop artist Edmund Smith.

Jeffrey's modern take on the boots is part of his latest collection for Charles Jeffrey Loverboy. Speaking to Good Morning Scotland, he recounted being tagged in a viral photograph of trousers designed to mimic a banana peel. This spurred the idea to actually create the boots.

Despite initial concerns about the high cost deterring buyers, Jeffrey was pleasantly surprised by the rapid sales. He explained that the craftsmanship involved justifies the price, adding that the limited production makes the boots even more cherished. The boots sold out within 24 hours.

Jeffrey, known for designing stage outfits for Harry Styles and being friends with actress Tilda Swinton, remained discreet about which celebrities have ordered custom pairs. He hinted at potential future designs featuring unique colors and patterns, and encouraged young designers to be bold in their creative decisions.
