Wave of Drone Attacks Hits Russia: One Dead, Dozens Evacuated

Ukraine Drone Strikes Rock Russia, Leaving One Dead

Russian officials have reported that 144 Ukrainian drones were shot down across the country in a wave of attacks that resulted in the death of a 46 year old woman, set residential buildings ablaze, and disrupted flights in Moscow. The governor of Moscow, Andrei Vorobyov, stated that several apartments in two high rise buildings in the Ramenskoye area were set on fire, and three people were injured. A total of 43 residents were evacuated to temporary accommodation centers.

Moscow Flights Disrupted and Resumed Amid Drone Strikes

The drone strikes led to the temporary shutdown of four major airports in Moscow, causing the suspension of more than 30 domestic and international flights. Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, later confirmed that three of the affected airports Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Vnukovo had resumed operations by Tuesday morning.

Russia's Response to the Drone Attacks

Ukraine has not commented on the attacks, but Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov remarked that the incident underscored the need for Russia to continue its military operations in Ukraine. He stated, "We must continue the military operation in order to protect ourselves from such displays of this regime." The Russian defense ministry reported that of the 144 drones intercepted, half were in the western border region of Bryansk, 20 were in Moscow, and 14 were over the Kursk region.

Russia Advances in Eastern Ukraine

On the same day as the drone attacks, Russia announced that it had captured at least three villages in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. The defense ministry claimed to have "liberated" the town of Krasnohorivka, highlighting ongoing military advances in the area.
