5th Japan Arab Economic Forum Concludes with Strategic Economic and Energy Collaborations


The 5th Japan Arab Economic Forum, co hosted by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry , and the League of Arab States, successfully concluded on July 10 11, 2024, in Tokyo. The forum saw the participation of prominent leaders including Japan's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tsuji Kiyoto, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Mr. Saito Ken, and State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Kozuki Ryosuke. The Arab delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, alongside various economic ministers from Arab countries.


Key Highlights


1. Public , Private Business and Economic Conference


On July 10th, the forum opened with a Public Private Business and Economic Conference, featuring remarks from key speakers including Minister Saito, Minister Kharabsheh, Mr. Ali, Mr. Miyata, and Dr. Hanafi. Secretary General Aboul Gheit's keynote speech underscored the importance of enhancing partnerships between Japan and Arab states. Discussions during this conference focused on boosting mutual trade, addressing climate change, and driving innovation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence .


2. Ministerial Conference


The Ministerial Conference, which commenced on July 11th, was marked by Minister Kamikawa’s emphasis on fostering synergy and prosperity between Japan and Arab countries. The agenda was divided into two parts,

  • Agenda 1 - Focused on resilient economic development.

  • Agenda 2 - Addressed sustainable economic development.


Key topics included energy security, digital infrastructure, AI, clean energy technologies aimed at achieving Net zero goals, and the Sustainable Development Goals .


3. Joint Press Release


Following the forum, a joint press release was issued outlining future directions for economic cooperation. It also announced that the 6th Japan Arab Economic Forum will be hosted by an Arab country in 2026.
