Initial Projections and Results Timing


  •  First Parliament Composition Estimate: Approximately between 20:15 and 20:30 CEST.

  • First Provisional Election Results: Expected around 23:15 to 23:30 CEST.

  • Media Engagement: Group leaders and lead candidates will address the media throughout the evening.

  • Daily Briefings: Off the record media briefings will be held from Thursday, 6 June to Monday, 10 June.


The European Parliament is actively supporting media coverage leading up to the elections 2024 from 6 to 9 June. Journalists are invited to report from Brussels, with a particular focus on election night, Sunday, 9 June, when provisional results will be announced. Media access will be granted before and after this date.


The Parliament’s press service will provide daily briefings, both in person and via interaction, covering background information, election facts, result estimation methodologies, and key post election events. These sessions will also address the transition to the new parliamentary term, including legislative work, the election of the Commission President, and the appointment process for the next College of Commissioners.


Briefing Schedule

  • Thursday, 6 June at 11:00: Overview of European elections.

  • Friday, 7 June at 11:00: Parliament essentials.

  • Saturday, 8 June at 11:00:Election night preparation.

  • Sunday, 9 June at 11:00: Comprehensive briefing on Parliament and election night (in person only).

  • Sunday, 9 June at 17:30: On the record last minute briefing for election night.

  • Monday, 10 June at 11:00:Provisional results and next steps (in person only).


Provisional results will be published after 23:00 CEST on Sunday, 9 June, following the closure of the last polling stations in Italy. Prior to this, the Parliament will release estimations based on pre election and exit polls. The plenary chamber in Brussels will serve as a press room with designated TV station posts and a stage area for disseminating information. Access will be restricted to accredited media and essential Parliament staff. Live audio visual positions will be available on the Karamanlis walkway and rue Wiertz.


Election Night Programme


  • 18:15 CEST: First national estimates.

  • 20:15-20:30 CEST: Initial projection of the new Parliament based on national estimates and pre election polls.

  • 23:15-23:30 CEST: First provisional results and second seat projection.

  • 01:00 CEST (Monday, 10 June): Final updated projection.

 

All data will be accessible on the official election results website.

Leaders of EP political groups and Commission President candidates will address the media during the evening. Political group press teams will also be available to respond to media inquiries. Accredited media and EP annual media badge holders will have access to the Parliament on election night with their existing badges. Other journalists must register for short term media access via JOUREG. Approved passes can be collected from 3 June to 9 June at the Accreditation Centre in front of Parliament.


Only journalists with assigned places in the hemicycle will work from there. Additional working areas include room 3C050 in the SPAAK building and the ground floor press room in the same building. Parliament’s carpark will be available for media on election night, with valid media passes required for entry. The usual IZIX App will not be needed during this period.
