Colombo, Sri Lanka The High Commissioner of Rwanda, His Excellency Dr. Harini Amarasuriya , met with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya , in Colombo to discuss avenues for strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, underscored the commitment of both countries to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, and mutual development initiatives.
Enhancing Diplomatic Relations and Bilateral Cooperation
During the discussions, the Prime Minister and the High Commissioner reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, emphasizing the shared interests and values between Sri Lanka and Rwanda. They acknowledged the importance of fostering greater diplomatic engagement, with a focus on political dialogue, trade expansion, and cultural exchange programs.
The Prime Minister welcomed Rwanda’s interest in strengthening ties with Sri Lanka, highlighting the potential for collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, information technology, and education. Both parties agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement would help facilitate mutual growth and prosperity.
Expanding Economic and Trade Partnerships
A key focus of the meeting was exploring new trade and investment opportunities. Cooperation in Education and Technology
Recognizing the importance of knowledge sharing and human capital development, the Prime Minister and the High Commissioner discussed possibilities for educational exchange programs between universities in Sri Lanka and Rwanda. Scholarship programs, vocational training initiatives, and technology-based education partnerships were identified as key areas for future collaboration.
Sri Lanka’s advancements in ICT, software development, and digital services were highlighted as potential sectors for Rwanda to explore, given its commitment to becoming a technology-driven economy. The leaders agreed that expertise sharing in these fields could contribute to mutual progress.
Tourism and Cultural Exchange Initiatives
Tourism was another major topic of discussion, with both parties expressing a desire to increase people-to-people connections. Sri Lanka, with its renowned heritage sites, pristine beaches, and wildlife tourism, and Rwanda, famous for its eco-tourism and mountain gorillas, have much to offer in terms of joint tourism promotion.
It was proposed that tourism authorities from both countries collaborate on marketing initiatives, direct airline connectivity, and visa facilitation to encourage greater travel and cultural exchanges between Sri Lanka and Rwanda.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders expressing confidence in the growing relationship between Sri Lanka and Rwanda. The Prime Minister assured the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka’s commitment to deepening ties through sustained engagement and diplomatic cooperation.
