A hat worn by Harrison Ford in the second "Indiana Jones" film has sold at auction for almost half a million pounds. The brown felt fedora, specially made for "Temple of Doom," was put up for auction in Los Angeles on Thursday, selling for $630,000 (£487,000). Other movie memorabilia included props from "Star Wars," "Harry Potter," and James Bond films, which also formed part of the auction.
In "Temple of Doom," Indiana Jones is wearing the hat early in the movie during a dramatic escape scene. With nightclub singer Willie Scott and young friend Short Round, Jones uses an inflatable raft to jump from a crashing plane and slide down mountainside after the flight gets sabotaged.
Auction house Propstore said the hat was also used during additional photography at George Lucas' visual effects facilities and was worn by Ford's stunt double, Dean Ferrandini. The fedora was from the personal collection of Ferrandini and came with previously unpublished photos of him in the iconic costume on set.
This fedora, created by London's Herbert Johnson Hatters, had a more tapered crown than the one in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," with gold monogrammed initials "IJ" inside the lining. Other sold items included an Imperial Scout Trooper helmet from "Return of the Jedi," which went for $315,000; a light-up magic wand used by Daniel Radcliffe in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," which fetched $53,550; and a suit worn by Daniel Craig in "Skyfall," going for $35,000.
We're very proud to connect fans with these really important pieces of pop culture history," said Brandon Alinger, Propstore's chief operating officer. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Indiana Jones hat sold for more than twice what was paid for another "Temple of Doom" fedora, which sold at auction in 2021 for $300,000 (£232,000).
