Dubai is set to redefine architectural innovation once again with the unveiling of Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky, a groundbreaking wellness destination designed by the globally renowned Therme Group. Rising to an impressive 100 meters (328 feet) within the city's Zabeel Park, this visionary project promises to integrate nature, luxury, and wellbeing in an unprecedented way. Featuring cascading thermal pools, mineral baths, and lush botanical gardens suspended in the air, Islands in the Sky aims to become a landmark of holistic relaxation and urban rejuvenation.
Designed by the prestigious architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), this ambitious structure is envisioned as a vertical oasis, seamlessly blending natural elements with modern design. Its unique concept consists of multiple floating islands, each offering distinct thermal experiences, from warm mineral pools and saunas to cooler, refreshing environments. The project is expected to attract 1.7 million visitors annually, setting a new global benchmark for urban wellness resorts. With Dubai being a city known for pushing the boundaries of architecture and urban planning, Islands in the Sky aligns perfectly with its vision of integrating sustainable and experiential living into its skyline.
Therme Group CEO Robert Hanea emphasized that the project embodies Dubai’s forward-thinking approach to urban development, where wellbeing and sustainability play a crucial role. The resort will recycle 90% of the water used in its pools and derive 80% of its cooling needs from clean energy sources, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to environmental responsibility. By day, the facility will serve as a tranquil retreat for relaxation, while at night, it will transform into a dynamic space hosting cultural events, artistic performances, and social gatherings.
Dubai has long been synonymous with architectural marvels, from the towering Burj Khalifa to the ambitious World Islands. With Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky, the city further solidifies its reputation as a hub for innovative and luxury-driven developments. Its integration into Zabeel Park, located next to the Royal Palace, will offer visitors a unique blend of serenity and grandeur, making it a key attraction for both residents and international tourists. The project’s location within one of Dubai’s most prominent green spaces will enhance its accessibility and connection to nature, reinforcing the concept of an urban sanctuary.
The construction of Islands in the Sky is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion expected by 2028. Its launch will coincide with other major architectural projects in Dubai, such as The Burj Azizi, which, upon completion, will become the world’s second-tallest skyscraper at 725 meters (2,379 feet). Additionally, the Ciel Dubai Marina, set to open this year, will claim the title of the world’s tallest hotel, offering over 1,000 luxury suites. With these developments, Dubai continues to push the limits of urban design, ensuring its status as a global leader in architectural innovation and luxury living.
As the city embraces a future where nature, wellness, and architecture coexist harmoniously, Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky stands as a testament to what is possible when ambition meets expertise. This vertical paradise will not only transform the city’s skyline but also redefine the very concept of urban wellbeing, offering a sanctuary above the bustling metropolis.
