Jack Black announced the cancellation of the remaining dates of the Tenacious D world tour following an outcry over a comment made by bandmate Kyle Gass regarding an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The incident occurred during a performance in Sydney, Australia, when Gass was asked to make a wish upon receiving a cake for his 64th birthday and allegedly responded with, "Don’t miss Trump next time."

Black expressed his shock and disapproval in an Instagram statement, stating he was "blindsided" by the comment and emphasized his firm stance against hate speech and political violence. He explained that it was "inappropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour" and announced that the band's "creative plans are on hold." He also expressed gratitude to fans for their support and understanding.

The controversy had already caused the postponement of the band's Newcastle, New South Wales, show. Gass issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging the "severe lack of judgment" in his improvised remark and disavowing violence in any form. He expressed profound regret and apologized for any harm caused.

As a result of the incident, Gass parted ways with his agent, Michael Greene of Greene Talent, who confirmed the split to BBC News.

While some audience members laughed during the concert, the comment sparked widespread outrage on social media. Elon Musk, owner of X, labeled the remark "evil." Australian Senator Ralph Babet demanded the band's deportation, stating they should be "immediately removed from the country."

Australian Ambassador to the US Kevin Rudd condemned the comment, calling it sickening and stressing the seriousness of joking about such violence. He urged people to take such matters seriously and act maturely.

The incident occurred after Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania. The FBI identified the assailant as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20 year old kitchen worker and registered Republican from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper after opening fire, resulting in one spectator's death and serious injuries to two others.
