Discover how Jacquemus Draws inspiration from Brigitte Bardot for the latest collection, evoking a stylish disdain reminiscent of the film 'Contempt'.
Jacquemus’ latest collection is marked by the tension between its dissatisfied protagonists and their striking surroundings, reminiscent of the film "Contempt." Set at Casa Malaparte, perched on a rocky promontory above the ocean, the show capitalized on this dramatic backdrop. Anok Yai opened Monday’s show in a textured beige jacket, worn off her shoulders and held to her chest, evoking an image of someone who had just spent a day lounging on the beach. This look was reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot’s character in the film, descending the steps of the casa in a bright yellow dressing gown.
In the lead up to the show, the brand shared imagery that evoked a strong desire to visit the Mediterranean. They celebrated the opening of a new boutique a week prior with videos featuring a man paddleboarding while ironing, a cyclist with a stack of colorful bucket hats, and a girl sipping a large spritz on a sofa chair, riding through Capri’s winding streets on a porter vehicle.
The Jacquemus show itself felt like a holiday wardrobe come to life. Models donned scarves around their heads and necks, sharp sunglasses, and wide shouldered tops that revealed sun kissed clavicles. They walked the catwalk in backless midi dresses with cape details that flowed in the ocean breeze. The show concluded with Kim in a backless black dress, accessorized with a bright blue clutch.
With a color palette of bright blue, buttery yellow, electric red, and zebra print, Jacquemus expanded on the visual themes of Godard’s film. It was easy to envision Bardot wearing any of these looks while gazing at Capri from a boat, embodying a sense of stylish disdain.
