Jamie Lee Curtis is stepping back from her recent critique of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), made during a panel at San Diego Comic Con. The Oscar winning actress, known for her candidness and wit, found herself in a bit of hot water after a viral clip showcased her blunt assessment of the MCU's current phase.

During the Comic Con panel, Curtis was asked by MTV to identify which phase the MCU is currently in. Without missing a beat, she responded with a single word: "Bad." The room's reaction was immediate, filled with audible gasps and shocked laughter. This moment, though delivered in jest, sparked a significant conversation online, leading Curtis to address the situation directly.

On Thursday, Curtis took to her X account to issue an apology. "My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better," she wrote. The actress also revealed that she has personally reached out to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. In her statement, she promised to refrain from participating in the "mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet," acknowledging the often contentious nature of online discourse.

Curtis' recent jab at the MCU is not an isolated incident. In 2022, while heavily promoting her A24 film "Everything, Everywhere All at Once," Curtis made another pointed comment about Marvel. She took to Instagram to assert that her emotionally engaging multiverse movie "out marvels any Marvel movie they put out there," specifically targeting "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness," which was released around the same time.

Her remarks in 2022 were intended to stir up what she called "friendly competition." Speaking to People magazine, Curtis explained her perspective: "I felt like stirring up a little friendly competition," she said. However, she made it clear that she would not turn down an opportunity to work with Marvel if the right role came along. "I’m a collaborating artist," she added. "I work with a lot of people on a lot of different things, and if the role was interesting and if I could bring what I do to it, of course I would work with Marvel. What am I going to do, say no?"

Curtis' relationship with the MCU and its fans is a fascinating one, marked by both admiration and critical commentary. Her apology and subsequent clarification suggest a desire to move past the controversy and perhaps even pave the way for future collaboration with Marvel.

Interestingly, Marvel itself is known for its ability to poke fun at its own expense. This self deprecating humor is part of the MCU's charm and relatability. A prime example is seen in the new "Deadpool & Wolverine" film, where Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool humorously welcomes Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to the MCU with the line, "You're joining at a bit of a low point." This kind of humor demonstrates Marvel's awareness of its own ups and downs and its ability to engage with fans on a more personal level.

Curtis' willingness to apologize and her openness to working with Marvel reflect a broader trend in Hollywood, where actors and creators navigate the delicate balance of critique and collaboration. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, such moments of reconciliation and understanding become increasingly important.

In the end, Curtis' comments and subsequent apology highlight the complex interplay between celebrity opinions, fan reactions, and corporate responses in the modern media environment. Her journey from criticism to apology offers a lesson in humility and the power of dialogue, reminding us that even in the highly competitive world of Hollywood, there's always room for growth and collaboration.
