The 85-year-old veteran actor, in a recent interview with Fox News, openly wished that his daughter, Angelina Jolie, and her former husband, Brad Pitt, ended their ongoing feud. Voight said he hopes Pitt will "step up" and end the "nonsense," suggesting that there needs to be stability for the couple's six children.
Voight's comments come as Jolie and Pitt are still embroiled in a highly publicized legal battle largely centered on their shared French winery, Château Miraval. The divorce, which has dragged on since Jolie filed in 2016 after two years of marriage and a total of 12 years together, has been marked with strong disputes over how to split the assets and who will take custody over their children. Although the couple has legally been single since 2019, rows continued till now.
Things really soured when Pitt filed a lawsuit over the winery, which Jolie answered with a countersuit of her own. Her legal response included very serious allegations of physical and emotional abuse against Pitt during a September 2016 incident on a plane. Among the claims of suit: that Pitt "grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her" and later "choked one of the children and struck another in the face" when they tried to intervene.
Despite these accusations, investigations by the FBI and the child welfare authorities in Los Angeles were opened but dropped with Pitt denying all allegations.
Voight, who in recent years has become known for his conservative views and support for former President Donald Trump, also waded in on his strained relationship with Jolie. He recently slammed her stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict, suggesting that she was "influenced by antisemitic people" because of her work with the United Nations. Voight expressed love for his daughter but stood firm in his criticism, claiming that the U.N.'s stance on human rights often translates to "anti-Israel bashing."
Even with all the tension that still exists between Jolie and Pitt, Voight's public appeal only spells out the continuance of strain on the family. With both parents locked in legal battles and public disputes, their children's well-being is naturally a concern for Voight and likely many others who have watched this high-profile case.
