Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that forward Diogo Jota will be unavailable for their upcoming Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday. Jota sustained a chest injury during Liverpool’s recent victory over Chelsea after a collision with Blues defender Tosin Adarabioyo, leading to his substitution.
The Portugal international subsequently missed Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig on Wednesday and will also be sidelined for the Arsenal match at Emirates Stadium, scheduled for 16:30 GMT. Additionally, winger Federico Chiesa and right back Conor Bradley are also doubtful for the trip.
"They’re in good spirits, but they won’t be ready to play for us this weekend," Slot noted. "Federico may rejoin training today or tomorrow, but Diogo is certainly not available, and we’re monitoring Conor Bradley’s status as well."
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who sustained a hamstring injury during Liverpool's win over Crystal Palace on October 5, remains out and is expected to return only after the upcoming international break in mid November. Slot provided an update on Alisson’s recovery, saying, "He’s making progress as expected, but this isn’t a short term recovery. The final stages of rehab are always telling, and he hasn’t reached that phase yet."
Liverpool, who currently lead the Premier League standings with a four point cushion over third placed Arsenal, are aware of the significance of Sunday’s match. Reflecting on Arsenal’s recent form, Slot acknowledged the challenge: "Arsenal has been ahead of us for the last two seasons, and while it’s early to predict competitors, Arsenal will be one. Points gained or lost against them could prove crucial."
Slot added, "An away game at Arsenal, Manchester City, or other top teams is challenging, but we’re fully focused on securing a result on Sunday."
