Ferrari has appointed Loic Serra as their new chassis technical director, following a major restructuring after the departure of Enrico Cardile to Aston Martin. Serra, a former performance director at Mercedes, will officially assume his role at Ferrari starting October 1. His arrival is part of Ferrari’s efforts to regain their competitive edge in Formula 1, as they currently trail behind Red Bull and McLaren in the constructors’ championship.

Serra’s move reunites him with Lewis Hamilton, who is set to join Ferrari next season. Having worked closely with Hamilton during his tenure at Mercedes, Serra's expertise will be instrumental in bolstering Ferrari’s performance for the upcoming season.

This structural change follows a period of underperformance for Ferrari, despite early season success with wins in Australia and Monaco. A mid-season aerodynamic issue hampered Ferrari’s progress, causing them to fall behind their rivals. To address this, the team introduced updates to the car’s floor, with promising results at the Italian Grand Prix, though further evaluations are needed to ensure consistent improvement.

Serra's experience will be crucial as Ferrari looks to refine their car's design and regain their momentum in the championship. With Ferrari’s sights set on challenging Red Bull and McLaren in 2024, Serra’s role as chassis technical director will be central to their strategy.

His promotion highlights Ferrari’s long-term vision of reasserting themselves as a dominant force in F1. The shift in technical leadership, alongside the anticipated arrival of Hamilton, reflects Ferrari’s determination to rebuild their legacy and achieve greater success on the track.

With the 2024 season drawing near, Ferrari will need to capitalize on the strategic changes and technical upgrades to compete at the highest level. The combination of Serra’s technical acumen and Hamilton’s driving skills could potentially usher in a new era of success for the iconic team.
