Leon Marchand triumphed over Duncan Scott to win the men’s 200m individual medley at the short course World Cup event in Shanghai.
Marchand, representing France, had already secured victory in the 100m individual medley on Friday, marking his first competition since claiming four gold medals at the Paris Olympics this summer. Dominating the race after the halfway mark, Marchand clocked a World Cup record time of 1 minute 50.30 seconds.
Reflecting on his performance, Marchand said, "It was a pretty good race and I'm happy with the time, so it's cool."
Duncan Scott of Great Britain, who had earlier won the 400m freestyle and placed third in the 100m IM, finished second in the 200m IM with a time of 1:51.08. Switzerland’s Noe Ponti came third in 1:51.78.
"It's always fun racing against those guys because it brings out the best in all of us, but that was a tough one," said Scott.
Additionally, Great Britain's James Guy secured fourth place in the men’s 200m butterfly.
The World Cup series will continue with two more events in South Korea from October 24-26 and Singapore from October 31 to November 2. These events also serve as qualifying competitions for the 2024 short course World Championships in Hungary in December.
