Boston, Massachusetts – Massachusetts residents on Tuesday, November 5 voted to remove the mandatory that Students must excel in the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System exam (MCAS) in Mathematics, Science, Technology, and English to earn a high school diploma.

In the position of the MCAS, the law instead mandates students to finish district-certified coursework demonstrating masteries of state academic standards. Massachusetts reported in excelling Question 2 voters “have proclaimed that they are ready to let teachers teach and students learn.”

“Massachusetts has long had the best public schools in the county, and that’s because of the dedication of educators and the commitment of legislators and policymakers to provide every student with the opportunity to thrive,” said MTA. “We see this as a victory to build upon as all of us who want what is best for students continue to address significant needs in our schools, including student mental health and funding districts in need.”

This decision to drop the requirement MCAS is a stress relief for both students and teachers.

Opponents reported it would create education even worse and aggravated inequality which would raise an eyebrow at schools on how they classify a high school diploma, what does it exactly mean?

In my opinion, what do I exactly think about this decision? Well, in my suggestion that it is ridiculous that the Massachusetts Government eliminated the MCAS Requirement for High School Students, MCAS is very important because it would help give techniques to become more successful later on in life. Teachers help students prepare for these standardized tests for the future. I spoke with a Massachusetts native in Worcester, Massachusetts about this discussion. Some people explained that MCAS would be a higher risk for students to drop out of High School which would be more stressful for some students, while others think it was not a good idea to eliminate MCAS, at all.
