Deadpool video game prices rocket after film release

Prices of a nine year old PlayStation 4 video game skyrocketed after the release of the highly anticipated film "Deadpool & Wolverine" last week. Desperate fans looking to get their hands on the 2015 *Deadpool* game paid as much as £116 for it on eBay, with a mint condition, sealed copy going for as much as £330 last week. Due to this, the game was pulled from all digital storefronts, leaving the few remaining gamers seeking to play it with no choice but to track physical copies.

The renewed interest in the game seems to be directly linked to the popularity of the new film, which scored more than 444 million dollars (£345m) over its first weekend. *Deadpool & Wolverine*, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular character, broke box office openings records for the sixth-biggest.

First released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the 2015 re release of the game is slowly but surely becoming hard to get at palatable prices. The game holds rather mixed reviews from critics, with Metacritic giving an average score of 60 out of 100; it has managed to retain much of its fan base.

According to PriceCharting, a site that charts the sale of media online, the game, which once retailed for £49.99, could have been picked up for as little as £9 during the release of the second Deadpool movie in May 2018. However, all the hype for this third installment of this franchise and the popularity of its stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, began to jack up the game price since the actual filming started in May 2023. The July 2024 release date pushed the price of the game to a record high.

*Deadpool & Wolverine* had the sixth biggest opening weekend ever in the US, per The Hollywood Reporter. It pulled in $211 million domestically and $233 million at the international box office. Reynolds thanked fans on Instagram, stating the success was "kind of hard to process."

Also in the mix are a few Marvel cameos, but the shock appearance is that of Wrexham AFC striker Paul Mullin. Reynolds, who also owns the Welsh football club alongside actor Rob McElhenney since 2020, got promoted to League One. Their rise was chronicled in the TV series *Welcome to Wrexham*.
