Nine Year Old Deadpool Game Sees Price Surge Amid Film Frenzy

The price of a nine year old Play Station 4 game has soared following the release of the highly anticipated film Deadpool & Wolverine last week. Fans eager to acquire the 2015 Deadpool game have paid up to £116 on eBay, with unopened copies in top condition selling for as much as £330. As the game is no longer available for digital download, players must seek out physical copies. The renewed interest in the game appears to stem directly from the film's success, which grossed over $444 million (£345 million) during its opening weekend. Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, achieved the sixth biggest box office opening ever.

Film's Popularity Fuels Game's Price Increase

Originally released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the 2015 re release of Deadpool for PS4 has become increasingly rare and expensive. Despite receiving mixed reviews, with an average Metacritic score of 60 out of 100, the game's price has risen sharply. According to Price Charting, the game, which retailed for £49.99, could be purchased for just £9 in May 2018 when the second Deadpool movie was released. However, the hype surrounding the third installment and the popularity of its stars, Reynolds and Jackman, have driven prices higher since filming began in May 2023. The game's price reached a record high following the film's July 2024 release. Deadpool & Wolverine's opening weekend, making $211 million domestically and $233 million internationally, was the sixth biggest ever in the US. Reynolds expressed gratitude to fans on Instagram, calling the film's success "kind of hard to process." The movie is filled with Marvel cameos and features an unexpected appearance from Wrexham AFC striker Paul Mullin, highlighting Reynolds' connection to the football club he co owns with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.
