President Holds Discussions with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son

Colombo, 2/14/2025  President Anura Kumara Desanayake engaged in high level discussions with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son during an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam. focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and regional development.

 

During the discussions, both leaders reiterated their commitment to fostering closer economic ties. They explored avenues for increasing trade volume between the two nations, with an emphasis on sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and technology. The President emphasized the importance of expanding market access for Sri Lankan products in Vietnam and vice versa.

 

The two officials also addressed key regional and global challenges, including economic resilience in the post pandemic era and strategies for sustainable development. Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed Vietnam’s willingness to support Sri Lanka in various capacity building initiatives, particularly in industrial and infrastructure development.

 

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on enhancing investment opportunities. The leaders acknowledged the need for stronger partnerships in renewable energy, manufacturing, and digital transformation. Both sides agreed to facilitate business collaborations by reducing trade barriers and improving regulatory frameworks.

 

Additionally, cultural and educational exchanges were highlighted as important components of strengthening bilateral ties. Both countries pledged to promote people to people connections through student exchange programs and tourism cooperation.

 

The discussions concluded on a positive note, with both leaders expressing optimism about the future of Sri Lanka Vietnam relations. They reaffirmed their commitment to furthering diplomatic ties and enhancing strategic partnerships for mutual benefit.

 

Following the meeting, the Vietnamese delegation is expected to participate in further engagements with Sri Lankan officials and business leaders to solidify collaborative initiatives.
