Reports say many of the casualties were people trying to scoop PMS from the overturned tanker, highlighting the risks involved in such activities.

Tanker truck engulfed in flames on a street, emitting thick black smoke. Blue barrels are nearby. Trees and a clear sky in the background.

President Tinubu has ordered immediate, full-scale medical treatment of the injured, even as he called on the "security and road safety agencies to ensure effective measures that may avert recurrences".
