A senior White House official on Tuesday defended the ongoing US sanctions and export controls on Russia, countering claims that these measures have driven Russia closer to China. Daleep Singh, the US Deputy National Security Adviser for International Economics, emphasized that the main reasons behind the strengthening Sino Russian relationship are Russia's decision to invade Ukraine and China's support for President Vladimir Putin's war efforts.

Singh, a key figure in designing the sanctions, stated that Western measures have effectively restricted Russia's access to global capital and advanced technology. He spoke on the issue at the Brookings Institution, asserting that Washington and its allies remain committed to using economic tools to thwart trade activities that jeopardize their security.

Singh also highlighted that the "nolimits" partnership between Russia and China is becoming increasingly asymmetrical, with Russia now heavily dependent on China for trade.
