Tamayo Perry, an actor known for his role in "Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides," was tragically killed in a shark attack while surfing in Hawaii. The 49 year old was attacked on Sunday afternoon, as confirmed by Honolulu's emergency services in a press conference.

Emergency responders were summoned to Malaekahana Beach around 1.00 PM local time, but despite efforts, Perry was pronounced dead by paramedics after being brought ashore by jet ski.

Perry, who played a buccaneer in the 2011 film alongside Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, and Geoffrey Rush, was also recognized for his roles in "Lost," "Hawaii Five 0," "Blue Crush," and "Charlie's Angels Full Throttle," as well as in a Coca Cola commercial.

Born on Oahu's east side, Perry had been a professional surfer for over ten years. On the Oahu Surfing Experience website, where he worked as an instructor, Perry described his encounters with "the world's deadliest wave" and reflected on a past "near fatal experience" caused by someone else's "lack of awareness."

Acting Honolulu Ocean Safety Chief Kurt Lager praised Perry as a beloved lifeguard known both locally and globally, stating that his infectious personality made him well loved. Mayor Rick Blangiardi echoed these sentiments, calling Perry's death a "tragic loss" and describing him as a "legendary waterman" and a respected member of the ocean safety team. Both officials extended their condolences to Perry's family and requested privacy for them during this difficult time.
