The highly anticipated Venom: The Last Dance wraps up Sony's live-action Venom trilogy with a debut Rotten Tomatoes score of 37%, marking a polarizing reception from critics but echoing the trend set by its predecessors. As much as the Venom series may not have pleased many critics, particularly when compared to the average critical score of 78.5% for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, it really appears to have clicked with audiences the world over. One of the most consistent big earners in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the Venom movies continue to build a lucrative box office performance despite polarizing critics.
Of the three movies within the Venom franchise, Venom: The Last Dance places second on Rotten Tomatoes with 37%, sandwiched between the original Venom, which came in with a modest 30%, and its direct sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which did a bit better at 57%. Admittedly, by MCU standards, the trilogy is subpar in critical reception. It has worked to a degree, though: a testament to Sony's success at wrangling interest for Venom, among the most popularly divisive characters in the Spider-Man cinematic canon.
Rotten Tomato Scores for Venom Series:
Venom — 30%
Venom: Let There Be Carnage — 57%
Venom: The Last Dance — 37%
By the time this trilogy wraps up, Venom certainly seems to have managed to find some space for himself within the Sony Spider-Man Universe in ways the box office numbers will attest-an audience more than ready and willing to embrace the anti-hero's chaotic charm, no matter what the critical reception may be.
