The stars of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice have alighted in Venice, as the highly-anticipated sequel makes its bow at the Italian film festival. Tim Burton revisits his 1988 cult classic with Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton reprising their roles from the original; Wednesday's Jenna Ortega and oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe join them for the sequel.
A-listers who will appear during the 10-day festival include Lady Gaga, George Clooney, Daniel Craig, Julianne Moore and Brad Pitt. The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cast and director arrived in style via water taxi, signing autographs and taking photos. Many were clad in dark gothic attire while others wore black-and-white outfits inspired by the iconic look of the original film.
This year's festival sees the event return to its full glory after a subdued festival last year due to the Hollywood writers' strike. The Beetlejuice sequel again stars Michael Keaton, as the mischievous ghoul. It is due for release in the UK on September 6.
Burton, whose films also include Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland, called the project personal. Ahead of the opening he told an audience the movie re-awakened his love of filmmaking, taking him back to what was important to him as a creator and bringing him around people he loves working with.
