Officials Investigate Source of Mysterious Chemical Deposits Found Along Shoreline.
Beaches in Sydney have reopened after being temporarily closed due to the appearance of thousands of mysterious black tar like balls that washed ashore earlier in the week. The unexpected event raised health concerns and prompted a large scale cleanup operation.
Tests revealed that the balls were formed from chemicals commonly found in cosmetics and cleaning products, mixed with fuel oil. Despite confirming the substances were not highly toxic to humans, authorities urged the public not to touch or handle the deposits.
The origin of the pollution remains unknown, with investigations ongoing. New South Wales officials are working to identify the source and any responsible parties. Although the tar balls are not considered hazardous while on the ground, the public is advised to report sightings to lifeguards and wash hands thoroughly if accidental contact occurs.
