While on Wednesday morning, a fire happened in an electric vehicle in Douglas County that resulted to closing off many lanes on Highway 83, Parker Road for over two hours. It occurred at 6001 South Highway 83 and it was South of Castle Rock around 11:30 a.m., and it involved a white Tesla.

South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR), the Parker Police Department, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office all responded to the fire. At about 11:40 a.m., both northbound and southbound lanes of Parker Road were barricaded between South Pinery Parkway and North Pinery Parkway when the blaze spread from the car to grass nearby.

To starve the flames of oxygen, which continued consuming everything until only its frame was left behind, SMFR Hazmat Team had to use EV Fire Blanket. By 1 p.m., while first responders still were doing their best efforts one lane heading north on Parker Road was reopened. Nonetheless, at 1:30 p.m., all lanes were closed again because after removing this fire blanket; there was still smoldering in the car leaving behind seats and nothing but tires.

"Crews are monitoring the fire and letting it burn itself out before towing the vehicle away," SMFR stated in a subsequent post, indicating that both sides of Parker Road would remain closed temporarily. The driver escaped the vehicle uninjured, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
