Thalpe Beach, though less crowded, is a quiet beach situated along the southern coast of Sri Lanka; it lies within a few kilometers of Unawatuna, a more popular tourist town. This beach is famous for golden sand, calm water, and above all, its unique natural rock pools formed by coral reefs. The main stress here will be to enjoy quiet and serene relaxation as opposed to the noisier beaches that can be found elsewhere.
That would indeed be a great place to spend a quiet day by the ocean, enjoying its beautiful sunsets and views. Thalpe is home to a few boutique hotels and villas, no doubt making it a favorite amongst travelers coming to seek exclusivity and privacy. At low tide, the rock pools are especially frequented by those who wade in them and play in the shallow waters.
The beach itself is not good for surfing because there is a coral reef, but beaches nearby, like Unawatuna and Weligama, are famous for surfing. Thalpe is excellent for swimming, sunbathing, and simply enjoying the picturesque views of Sri Lanka's south coast.
