What is a Burnout?


Burnout is an intellectual problem that involves processing stress in the workplace. There are three signs that a person feels burnout: procrastination, doubts, disinterest in a job, a sense of being worthless and having no compliments. These signs show the consequences of burnout in a social work environment, where it involves the circumstances of an individual.


According to NBCI, “The initial research on burnout was exploratory and relied primarily on qualitative techniques. Because the earliest researchers came from social and clinical psychology, they gravitated toward relevant ideas from these fields. The social perspective utilized concepts involving interpersonal relations, i.e. how people perceive and respond to others; these included detached concern, dehumanization in self‐defense, and attribution processes.”

Burnout shows the consequences on Employees. Burnout appears the result of employees such as physical, and emotional health, poor work performance, rising absences, decreased job appreciation, and the development of long-lasting health issues including anxiety, and depression.  


According to the statistics of SHRM,  “workers who are burned out from their work are nearly three times more likely to be actively searching for another job (45 percent versus 16 percent of those who did not report burnout). Workers who feel burned out from their work are significantly less likely to go above and beyond what is expected of them at work (40 percent versus 56 percent).”


How To Recover From Burnout?

Health experts explain that understanding and solving Burnout is complex for balancing a healthy work environment for people who are facing burnout as well as the companies who dealing with the consequences of dealing with this form of mental breakdown. To avoid Burnout, you manage a healthy lifestyle, deal with stress properly, and use self-care as a priority.


According to SHRM, “individuals can avoid experiencing burnout in several ways: Try to maintain an optimistic point of view when dealing with work challenges. Reframe your perceptions, because many people harbor false perceptions of the expectations others place on them. Give yourself some credit. Focus on maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, taking mental health days, and seeking professional support when needed. Find ways to limit your demands.”


Burnout is a form of mental illness that impacts your work performance. It may cause stress, anxiety, and long-term health problems. If you want to stay away from burnout, you need to learn to take care of yourself, otherwise, you will put your co-workers, and yourself at a very high risk, if you continue to develop burnout at work.
