Several vehicles in a motorcade transporting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, were involved in a crash in Milwaukee. Governor Walz was unharmed in the incident, which occurred around 1:00 PM local time (6:00 PM GMT) on Monday. The collision involved vehicles at the rear of the motorcade, which were carrying members of the press.

According to reporters in the motorcade, they were violently jolted forward when their vehicle was struck from behind, causing it to crash into the car in front. At least one person was injured, with reports indicating that someone may have sustained a broken arm and was receiving medical treatment.

The cause of the crash on Interstate 794 remains unclear. Following the incident, Vice President Kamala Harris called Governor Walz to ensure his safety, and President Joe Biden also reached out to him. The affected vehicles pulled over, but Walz continued to his scheduled event in Milwaukee.

Addressing the situation at a Labor Day event shortly after the crash, Walz reassured the crowd, stating that despite a few minor injuries, everyone involved would be okay. He expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and local first responders for their swift assistance.

In response to the incident, Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance expressed his hope that everyone was alright. This crash adds to a series of motorcade related incidents; just last week, a Georgia police officer in a campaign convoy suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident. Reports from NPR suggest that motorcade vehicles are frequently driven by campaign staff, who may not always have professional driving expertise.
