Ukrainian Fashion Week Returns to Kyiv, Symbolizing Resilience and Hope
Ukrainian Fashion Week (UFW) is set to return to Kyiv for the first time since the onset of the Russian invasion. Scheduled from September 1 to 4, this event represents resilience, survival, and hope, according to an announcement by the Ukrainian Fashion Association on Thursday. The 55th edition of the fashion week will feature over 50 Ukrainian brands, including renowned names like Litkovska, Frolov, Bobkova, Paskal, and Gasanova, showcasing their collections on home soil.
"Despite rocket attacks, air raid sirens, and daily challenges, our goal remains to support our designers in their creativity and business growth," stated UFW CEO Iryna Danylevska. "Our resilience is a testament to the strength and unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian designers."
Participants will present their collections through various formats such as fashion shows, presentations, installations, performances, and a fair. The main venue will be the historic Mystetskyi Arsenal, a multifunctional art, culture, and museum complex. Among the highlights is an installation featuring creations reflecting the war and portraits of Ukrainian fashion designers who have joined the armed forces.
The fashion week will commence with a "symbolic demonstration of unity," where young designers from the 'New Names' platform will walk with their models through Kyiv to the 'Ukrainian House' cultural center on European Square. Here, they will be welcomed by established brands with Ukrainian roots and international recognition.
Due to the war, Ukrainian designers have participated in international fashion weeks in cities like London, Copenhagen, and Berlin over the past two and a half years, supported by the "Support Ukrainian Fashion" initiative.
"We greatly appreciate the solidarity of the global fashion industry, which has supported us in these difficult times," continued the UFW founder. "Our goal is to showcase the creative power and courage of the Ukrainian fashion scene and bring Ukrainian Fashion Week back to Kyiv. Ukraine's voice must be heard."
