Ever since it was announced, Venom: The Last Dance has led to speculation over the fate of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and his symbiote companion. Indeed, both Hardy and director Kelly Marcel referred to this as a final chapter of the trilogy, so it appears they did mean that.
In the climactic scenes of the film, Venom sacrifices himself to save Eddie from xenophages, lethal creatures feeding on symbiotes. It culminates at Area 51, where the government had been experimenting with symbiotes. Along with scientists and soldiers infected with Venom, Venom finally releases Eddie to save him in a last confrontation. Saying a tearful good-bye, Venom sacrificed himself, drowning the xenophages in acid and ending his journey. Alone, Eddie travels to New York to complete Venom's dream of seeing the city and the Statue of Liberty.
Even though Venom was gone, there were still leftovers of the symbiotes. One became purple and super speedy, played by Dr. Payne, Juno Temple. She got out of the chaos but remained with her powers. During the post-credit scene, another surprise was allowed: a cockroach finds its way toward the vial of her symbiote, probably emitting new abilities from the insect. The mid-credits scene allowed one more: a message from Knull, a cosmic villain and maker of the symbiotes. Voiced by Andy Serkis, Knull ominously threatens, "Your champion has fallen, the King in Black is awake. Your world will burn, and you will watch!
Knull is a relatively new Marvel villain, and in the comics, he's an ancient god of darkness. He's been connected to the Celestials of Eternals and is also related to Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, and more. He had been cast out of the universe for killing a Celestial and used this power to create the first symbiotes. Later, his army would betray him, binding him onto the symbiote home world of Klyntar.
When he finally broke free, he launched an assault on Earth, aligning Venom and the Avengers against him.
Knull's Venom 3 debut could be his last for some time since Sony hasn't confirmed anything more for him or Venom. Director Marcel remains hopeful, saying, "This is just the beginning for Knull. We meet him here, but the door is open.
Meanwhile, Marvel and Sony work on the script for the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. With Eddie's relocation to New York, fans finally may see a crossover with Peter Parker and set up an epic meetup in the Marvel Universe.
