On Thursday, September 26, Hurricane Helene struck the shores of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina killing 26 people, and causing power outages in over 4 million homes and businesses according to World Vision.

The storm “packed 140 mph (225 kph) winds. It left behind a chaotic landscape of overturned boats in harbors, felled trees, submerged cars and flooded streets.” As a Category 4 storm, this is the strongest it’s been since its appearance in the late 50s and 80s, and early-mid 2000s.

Noting its strong impact, news organizations like Vox, are raising concerns about the future regarding climate change . Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center raises concerns about flooding in the Appalachians.

Based on weather changes and understanding that extreme weather can affect everyone, Vox advises people to prepare for these changes and advocate for policy change.
