Talk of the town is the latest release by DreamWorks Animation, The Wild Robot, which has taken the world by storm, and already it is being projected as one of the best films of the year and amongst the finest animated family films ever made.

The movie tells the story of ROZZUM Unit 7134, affectionately called Roz, voiced by Lupita Nyong'o. After being washed onto a desolate island devoid of human life, Roz is brought back to life by native animals, which forces her to adapt quickly to her alien surroundings. Along the way, Roz forms close bonds with the island's wildlife until she becomes a surrogate mother to an orphaned gosling, Brightbill, voiced by Kit Connor.

With 98% on Rotten Tomatoes since release, The Wild Robot has delighted both critical and general audiences alike. At nearly $200 million in global box office earnings, many are asking: will a sequel be on the cards?

And now, fans have a reason to cheer: DreamWorks has already given the go-ahead for a sequel to continue Roz's journey, which is an expansion of Peter Brown's beloved children's books. At the Deadline Contenders event last October 12, Chris Sanders confirmed that there is indeed one in the works when he excitedly exclaimed, "100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one.".

The sequel will be based on The Wild Robot Escapes, which is the second in Brown's trilogy, published in 2019. This time around, Roz gets taken away from her island haven, back into the world of humans. And here, she must disguise herself as an ordinary robot doing her chores at a farm. By nature of necessity, Roz has to go in a bit underground to strategize her plan for returning to the island-and to Brightbill.

While Nyong'o and Connor can be expected to reprise their roles as Roz and Brightbill, respectively, a rumored cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Catherine O'Hara, and Bill Nighy has not been confirmed. No release date has been set as of yet, but one thing fans of the film can be certain of: once Roz returns, it will be well worth the wait.

The Wild Robot hits theaters now, making sure to provide an emotionally engaging and well-told story that will keep its audiences anticipating the next continuation of Roz's saga.
