Gunman Spotted Before Shots Fired
A witness, Greg Smith, reported seeing a man with a rifle on a rooftop minutes before shots were fired at a Donald Trump rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred on Friday evening. Smith said the man had crawled on top of a building just outside the event. He immediately alerted the police, concerned about the potential threat. Despite his warnings, the rally continued, and moments later, five shots rang out.
Secret Service Response
As shots were fired, Secret Service agents quickly surrounded former President Trump and escorted him away. Trump was seen with blood on his face and later confirmed that a bullet had pierced his ear. The gunman was shot dead by Secret Service agents, who had climbed onto the roof and neutralized the threat. The incident is being investigated as an attempted assassination. Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman, confirmed the agents' swift action.
Witness Accounts and Security Concerns
Greg Smith, who was outside the rally, described his efforts to alert authorities to the gunman. He noted the difficulty police had in seeing the gunman due to the roof's slope and criticized the lack of Secret Service presence on the rooftops. He witnessed the agents shoot the gunman and ensure he was neutralized. Smith expressed his frustration, calling it a "100% security failure" and questioning the overall security measures in place.
Impact on Attendees
The shooting incident caused panic among the rally attendees. Smith mentioned that his child was terrified and begged to leave. Other children and attendees were also scared. Inside the event, a witness named Jason described dropping to the ground after hearing the gunshots and seeing the Secret Service protect Trump. Jason saw Trump standing up with a bleeding ear but alive. The crowd member reported the chaos and fear among the people as they realized someone had been shot, describing a scene with a lot of blood and confusion.
